G&S Lounge

I am sharing one of my top-secret hangouts. Like most Austinites, I’m rightfully worried that all our best places will soon be overrun. The G & S is a bit different — if you like it here, you’re my kind of people. Welcome! The G & S sits alone on a dusty stretch of S. First Street at Oltorf. From the outside, G & S Lounge doesn't look like much. However, when the front door opens up in vault-like fashion, you'll be pleased to see an old-timey popcorn machine, a shiny chrome-molded granite bar and... Zoltar, Zoltar, people! G & S has an amazing beer selection, and wide liquor selection with some colorful shots to match it's whimsical atmosphere. I don’t think I’ve ever ordered the same beer twice. Let it be known that the owner/main bartender is brusque. But, that's all the more reason to drink with him. It’s absolutely enormous, so between the bar, the two main rooms, and the smoking porch, there’s lots of room to spread out. G & S is sort of like a mini arcade, with enough leisure games around to suit the most ADHD of drinker's. They’re stocked with good pinball machines, air hockey, 2 Buck Hunter games, and a four pool tables. Insiders are rumoring of live music and some fried bar food by mid March 2009 taking this hidden gem to the next level!
