Low Flying Trapeze-Aerial Dance

Experience the rush of dancing on air in this 1-1/2-hour Introduction to the low-flying trapeze and aerial dance class. With its roots in modern dance, gymnastics and circus performance, aerial dance is an innovative art form that was pioneered in the late 1960s. Aerial dance is low-flying and provides endless opportunities for partnering between grounded and flying dancers. Whereas circus trapeze is rigged from two points and swings back and forth, aerial dance apparatus is hung from a single point of attachment, adding dimension of circular flight. The connection between ground and air in a circular flow of movement is what defines aerial dance and makes it so unique to watch and fun to do.

You’ll start out on aerial safety and learning the difference between high-flying circus trapeze and the low-flying trapeze and a complete warm-up. Then it is into the air as you’ll fly through dozens of aerial positions. Aerial classes are exhilarating and well designed with safety being the #1 priority. The workshop is taught by leading expert, Jayne Bernasconi, who is on the faculty in the dance department at Towson University and is the artistic director of her own aerial dance troupe which has been profiled in the Baltimore Examiner.
