Introduction to Sailing
The Chesapeake Bay is a national treasure and every year tens of thousands of people take advantage of this great resource for sailing. Have you ever been envious of the skills of people sailing since they were kids? Well, now it’s your turn because Things To Do has reserved a fleet of 23-foot Sonar Sailboats for a 45-minute class session and 2-hours of sailing instruction. The Sonars are quick and responsive fixed keel sloops with 3 sails and a large comfortable cockpits that fit six sailors (1 Instructor and a 5 person TTD crew).
After the classroom introduction to safety and the basics of sailing, we will form teams and then its off to the boats. Each TTD crew member will have the opportunity to learn all the techniques and responsibilities for each of the 5 positions on the boat. You’ll learn to trim the sails, tack to sail into the wind, jibe to turn through the wind as well as other invaluable lessons.
