Review:
Walking into Lucky's Stout House of my own volition is easily one of the shakiest bar decisions I made all year, and believe me when I tell you that I have definitely made some questionable decisions where drinking is concerned.
On the plus side, the drinks are cheap and the specials are fantastic. You could drink all night for fifteen bucks if you stick to the specials. Also, their neon sign is possibly the coolest bar sign that I have ever seen in Ohio. It is a huge glass of beer, with the business name encapsulated within, and the lights blink from the bottom to the top, creating the illusion of a beer being poured. It's pretty cool.
Some of the beers that they have on tap are just gross. I had an Arrow Stout, and I couldn't even finish it. And for a seasoned drinker such as myself, my inability to accomplish that particular mission is quite telling. When I walk into a bar and ask for "what's good on tap", I expect someone to tell me it's a raspberry stout before serving and charging me. That's just common courtesy.
The music as well as the decor of the bar itself was totally devoid of character or flavor whatsoever. I felt like I was trapped in the movie National Lampoon's Van Wilder. It was as is someone found a way to open a window into 2002, reach in and pull out a playlist from some top forty radio station, and then vommited the fruits of their efforts all over me. The bar itself is decorated pretty much exactly like any other college dive that you have ever been to. Ugly wood panneling, predictable Miller Light neon signs and Budweiser mirrors adorning the walls, etc. They did have a pool table, though.
As far as the atmosphere goes, see above. Lucky's Stout House is the epitome of a college frat bar. If you didn't come out to slam Natty Lite with your bros, chest bump and then all shout in unison, you probably want to go somewhere else. I guess it's a good place to meet really drunk girls, if that's what you're into (and yes, that is what they're into).
All in all, I would avoid Lucky's Stout House like the rash that it is, unless you are pledging to a fraternity and attending is a part of your cruel initiation.
