Intro to Sport/Recreational Airplanes

Yes, you read the event title right! Today, you will have the opportunity to view historic Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay from the cockpit of a sport airplane and you WILL TAKE CONTROL OF THE PLANE. Today, take this rare opportunity for a sport/recreation airplane flying lesson where you will have hands on learning experiences as you control the plane in the air.

We have leased 5 airplanes for the day, so join TTD and our expert aviation instructors as we offer you an introductory class to learn the basics of flying sport/recreation airplanes. Our flight school is the only flight school in Maryland dedicated strictly to sport and private aviation instruction. After a mandatory safety lesson, each person will learn the procedures for checking the aircraft; communication with the tower; reviewing all necessary instruments; take off procedures, and - of course - how to fly, steer and control your airplane. Before you know it, you will be taking control of the airplane and flying.

Each attendee will get 30 minutes in a Sky Arrow 600 Sport airplane, a sporty Italian aircraft ideally designed for training and is unparalleled by other training aircraft: with dual controls for the student and instructor, easy handling, and an incredible view from its huge plexigalss canopy, and state of the art navigational equipment.

Note that we will be arranging groups of approximately 8 people per hour and that from beginning to end, the class is approximately 90 minutes long.

After the class, enjoy refreshments and learn about options for continuing for advanced lessons to receive certification as an FAA certified Sport Pilot.

For an additional fee, we may be able to schedule an additional 1/2 hour. Note that weather, schedule and other variables may not guarantee the additional time, but we will make every effort if you request it. To make a request, please e-mail events@ThingsToDoBaltimore.com.

NOTE: If you are nervous, you do not have to take control of the airplane. This is purely optional. If you just want an informative ride where the pilot controls everything, that is fine as well. You may make this decision at the last minute.

NOTE: The week prior to class, you will receive an email with additional directions to the specific hangar at Bay Bridge airport where we will be meeting, so please make sure that your email address is correct.

Cost: $114
