I just moved to denver & would like to find someone interested to go hiking w/ me around the Denver area. Almost any level would do to get started. I would even be willing to plan it!

Nikki,

This probably won't help you much today and I didn't think of it until I looked at my calendar today, but the Colorado Mountain Club has an informational meeting once a month (today) to find out more about them. If you don't mind the steep yearly fee ($97) friends have told me it is a great organization to belong to if you like to hike. They schedule all sorts of hikes during the year that anyone that is a member can attend. There is a Denver chapter you may want to check out. I'll put up more information on this section once I attend the meeting tonight.

I actually was looking at this club but the web site says they are not taking new members. Did you make it to the meeting?  Let me know if you would like to plan a hike soon.

Nikki,

Sorry! I sort of forgot about checking this site and got caught up in work. I did make it to the CMC meeting. They are always accepting new members. I've been on one hike with them now and am going on another one on Saturday. They have an informational meeting every month, but they also have informational hikes. Call their main number to see when the next one is (303) 279-3080. The one thing I learned was that you really should go on hikes with people that know what they are doing and have been there before until you feel more comfortable with the area. It really is a great way to meet some new people as well. The also do ski trips and snow shoeing (sp?) in the winter. They also have a Wilderness Trekking School which starts on the 19th and teaches a bunch of information about hikes and takes  you on 5 field hikes. I'm going to do that. They place you in groups of 15 or so and with people similar in age and hiking ability so that you can meet other people you might want to hike with after that. Let me know if you decide to join and maybe we can plan to go on one of the same hikes together.
