About the American Red Cross Mile High Chapter Disaster Response Last year alone, the Mile High Chapter responded to, on average, one disaster every 30 hours right here in our community. When you think disaster, you probably think hurricane, wildfire or tornado. But, nearly 80% of the disasters the Red Cross responds to are home fires. They might not make the news, but to the family who has just lost their home it is their tsunami, it is their hurricane. The Red Cross is there to comfort and help that family begin the recovery process. Along with disaster relief, the Mile High Chapter teaches lifesaving skills, provides rides for the sick and elderly, and provides emergency communications for military families and their loved ones who are serving our country.
