The Breaks at Bar-H Mountain Bike Ranch currently has approximately 21 miles of trails open for use. These range in length from about .75 to 4 miles and level of difficulty from very easy to expert only. Billy Hutson, owner and operator of the Bar-H, and his daughter Tia Hutson, The Breaks manager and master trail designer/builder, have another 10 to 15 miles of trails scheduled to open within the next 12 to 18 months.
Trained by Tony and Danna Boone (owners of Arrowhead Trails, Inc. in Colorado and legends in the trail building business - hey these folks helped trained some of the IMBA crews!), Tia and her father Billy have developed a system of singletrack unparalleled in Texas and most of the southwest. Given that The Breaks is nestled amidst the canyons and arroyos of the Red River basin of north Texas, it is no wonder that they have been able to create a mountain biking park which challenges riders of all skill levels. (and it sure doesn't hurt that the Boones were instrumental in developing and building much of the trail system there!)
The Breaks is situated on nearly 1200 acres of land that is close to perfect in Texas for mountain biking singletrack. The trails range in elevation nearly 400 feet from the lowest sections in The Holler to the highest points on Devil's Backbone and Horseshoe. Encompassing skill levels from the easiest (such Earl's Way and Armadillo Flats and increasing in difficulty through trails such as The Oaks) to moderate trails (such as The Holler to Horseshoe) and on to expert level (Copperhead through Devil's Backbone), The Breaks offers superior riding opportunities for everyone.
