Fine Arts Chamber Players presents the 28th Annual Basically Beethoven Festival, a series of free classical chamber music concerts beginning Sunday, July 6. Performances occur every Sunday afternoon in July and, for the first time in the festival’s history, will be held inside air-conditioned Rosine Hall of the Dallas Arboretum. . The doors open at 2:00 pm and the music begins at 2:30 pm. The concerts are FREE TO THE PUBLIC but REQUIRE A RESERVATION, which also provides free Arboretum admission. The 2008 Basically Beethoven Festival features professional musicians from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO), Fort Worth Symphony (FWSO), and The Dallas Opera Orchestra (TDO) in four concerts of classical music by Beethoven plus a wide variety of other composers. The first concert on July 6th presents string trios by Beethoven and Dohnanyi. On July 13th, DSO cellist Yuri Anshelevich and pianist Christina Long perform Rachmaninov, Locatelli, Beethoven, MacDowell, and Debussy. On July 20th, the concert will feature Beethoven’s woodwind octet, Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for Clarinet Solo, and octet arrangements of Mozart operas. The final performance, July 27th, showcases Mount Vernon Music Quartet in Beethoven’s Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 16 and Fauré’s Quartet No. 1, Op. 15 for piano & strings.
For the Love of Music, a 20-minute pre-concert recital, showcases award-winning young musicians from the
North Texas
area. Performing this year are clarinetist Jimmye Ahn (July 6), violinist Suyun Lee (July 13), pianist Roderick Demming (July 20), and soprano Amber Wellborn (July 27). For the Love of Music is sponsored by Don and Norma Stone.
