Annual Guadalupe Tubing Trip 2006

UPDATE

WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED
Dogs, styrofoam (coolers) and glass bottles

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING
Remember to pack for a river trip. This means hat, sunscreen, swimsuit, towel, river shoes (tivas, etc...), cooler (not styrofoam), drinks (no glass), food to grill at site, etc...

COST: It is $10 per person a night to camp. It's $15 a tube (not including a shared tube for your cooler). If you get a group to pay all at once every 4 ppl get a free cooler tube. If you just show up to tube and don't camp you can just pay for the tube. $15 for the tube includes the shuttle to and from the river.

1 - You can show up at anytime and get into the campground (they don't shut the gates) so no worries if you come late. However, they stop collecting money at 1am. So if you show up after 1am you will need to go to the office first thing in the morning to get a wristband and a parking pass. The cost is $10 per person per night.

2 - Finding us can be a challenge at night. We will have multiple ways for you to find us.

a.) First, when you drive in, tell the person at the gate you are with the YAP group and ask where we are. We are going to tell them where we are when we arrive Friday afternoon (and Saturday morning) so they should know. But in case they have some other person working the gate they might not.

b.) Second, we will most likely try to pick the same spot as last year (unless they tell us to go somewhere else). So when you go in turn left immediately into overflow and goto the end. Look for an area with a lot of tents and cars all bunched together. There will be a lot of vehicles and tents but we should have the biggest bunch together. That is most likely us. Note the overflow area is the big fields you see when you drive in.

c.) Third, I will have YAP signs on some of our cars. So worst case you can look at each car parked for a white sign with black letters that says YAP. I also will try to have some signs near the campground so look at the posts by the cars for a sign.

d.) Fourth you can call my mobile. But realize most of the time phone calls don't work there. So you will probably get voicemail. So leave a msg. 972-679-9818.

e.) Fifth, don't be shy. If you see some ppl you think might be us you can ask. Eventually you'll find someone who is. Worst case you can camp and find us in the morning. But really, with a,b,c above you should be able to find us without much trouble.

3 - Carpooling is preferred by a lot of ppl. If you wish to share a ride or are looking for a ride post in the "discuss in forums". People want to leave and arrive at all sorts of times though.

4 - Arrival times vary. Most people from Dallas are coming Friday. About 20ppl Friday afternoon and 40+ ppl Friday night approx. A lot of ppl from San Antonio or Austin may decide to come in Saturday (they did last year) morning instead. We have a heck of a good time Friday night so recommend that and it's less hassle finding us in the morning. But those wanting to meetup with us Saturday recommend you arrive at 9;30am. We always aim to get going around 10am which gets us off the campground by 10:30 usually and into the river at 11am.

5 - If you have questions please post in the "discuss in forums" link for the event. We'll all try to answer.

Join us for our annual Texas Tubing Trip down the Guadalupe river. We tube down the river Saturday morning at 10:00am and most of the afternoon. It is also a fun camping weekend as we campout Friday and Saturday night also. You can choose to camp one or both nights or you can also just choose to meet us in the morning and tube during the day.

This is a fun trip we do with YAP Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.

It's a very easy trip as you can show up and pay at the campground without a reservation as they have large open fields for camping. It is $10 a night to camp and $15 per tube. You can bring your own food to cook (we'll have grills) or eat at the restaurant on site. It's BYOB.

More details on what to bring and such to come. This trip is weather dependent so if the Guadalupe river is not safe because of floods we will not go or if the weather is obviously going to be very bad over the weekend we will cancel the trip too. The convenient thing is since you can just show up without a reservation we can reschedule the trip if need be.

Storms in the area are very brief so even if the forcast is for rain we are going. It's only if there is extraordinarily bad weather we'll skip.

How to Find the Group

At the campground, ask the person at the gate where our YAP party is. Sometimes they rotate ppl so the person may not know. So when you enter turn to the left and look for some YAP signs in our overflow parking. If you arrive late, we'll probably have a big area with cars all around so look for that.
