Greenville Ave St Patrick's Day Parade

About the Parade
2008 will be the 29th annual Greenville Avenue St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dallas, TX. It happens the Saturday morning of or before Saint Patrick's Day March 17th on Greenville Avenue. The parade goes from 11:00 until about 12:30 and then everyone goes to parties after that.

Before the Parade
People show up early on Greenville Ave starting at 8am to get spots and by 9:30 am most good spots are all full. If you cannot arrive early plan on parking far away or taking a cab or DART.

It's a big party on the street with many places selling green beer and people having parking lot parties with music. The CVS parking lot on Lovers traditionally has a good crowd. So does Two Rows.

During the Parade
Many floats go by with people throwing green beads and other stuff. The majority of the floats are more adult oriented with bars and suchpromoting themselves.

After the Parade
After the parade around noon people all head south to the Dallas Observer's St. Patricks Day Party off of Yale or the Greenville Ave. Block Party south of Mockingbird. If you don't make it to the block party by 2:00 it is usually already full and they turn people away. The block party usually winds down around 6ish and by then most people are done for the day.

What To Bring
Sunscreen & Hat - it gets hot so prepare yourself
Comfortable Shoes - there may be a lot of walking involved
Cash - Makes it easy to buy water, food and beer

This is a very popular event and a great party. Many of the parade floats are adult oriented and you are allowed to drink on the streets. All the local bars along Greenville have parties too. And after the parade there are a number of after party choices.

The only problems are that there are a ton of ppl so be sure to get there extra early to avoid the crowds. Plus it is a morning event outside so be sure to keep hydrated. In 2006 I probably went through 8 waters alone.

I recommend grabbing lunch at a restaurant nearby after the parade and avoiding the traffic. Depending on where you go and if you know some of the hidden local spots, you can grab lunch without much of a line.
