I am looking for some people who are interested in doing some skating.  I am a beginner and have joined a group that I skate with on Wednesdays at Fair Park.  I have had some other Yappers that are interested, one being an event leader, and want to see if there is enough interest to have an actual weekly event.  This would be a great way to get in some exercise while socializing and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Fair Park is free and has plenty of parking. There is a path that the group I have been skating with that is about 2 to 2.5 miles long.  Everyone skates that loop as often as they want and some chose to do it backwards or go off and make their own path.  There is plenty of lighting and Dallas' finest patrol for safety.  When it rains the park has even been known to invite the skaters into the buildings to skate.  They were filming a commercial out there last week which was fun to watch.  They also have a police car training facility and occasionally you will see them out there training with the skid cars.  Anyway I guess I am trying to tell you that not only do you get to skate among the "largest collection of 1930 art deco exposition style architecture, the Texas Star, the tallest Ferris Wheel in North America and the lushly landscaped Leonhardt Lagoon, the Esplanade with its 1,000 ft reflecting pool, the Texas Vietnam Memorial, which is currently in a $32 million Restoration” but there are other little perks while you socialize and skate. Being a beginner I have skated other trails and parks but this one is not crowded so you don't feel like you have to get out of the pros way.  It provides a safe (no cars) area to learn how to street skate and practice hills, flats, curbs, different terrain, stopping etc.  For those of you who are better at skating there are lots of places to jump and go flying.

We normally park at the old mill restaurant.  I see people out there with dogs, bikes, skate boards, jogging etc.  So if skating is not your thing but you want to come out and do something you are welcome.  Normally meet at 7pm (but that can be adjusted) and skate till 9pm or so.

Let me know if this is of interest to anyone.  Even if we do not get enough interest to make it an event I am still looking for some people to skate with during the week. One day a weeek is not enough for me.  Let me know days and times that are good for you.

Andrea,

That sounds like the Pegasus Flyers (who I found through a YAP posting). The other events are found at their site (www.pegasusflyers.org), but the Wed evenings are mainly for newbies or ppl who can't fit skating in anywhere else in the week (like me). enjoy! ^_^

Adriana,

Thanks for host the T-Bird party I plan on being there! ^_^
