Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity news 3. Habitat for Humanity International News 1. Non-construction Volunteer Opportunities The Volunteer Services staff needs help registering volunteers on Saturday mornings! If you’re able to volunteer for just a few (earlier) hours and do not necessarily want to build, we want you! Hours: Saturday mornings 7:30 to 9:00 (or all day if you’d like to build) To volunteer: contact Jennifer Knoeber at 214-678-2315 or jknoeber@dallas-habitat.org. 2. Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity News Construction Orientation Schedule: Saturdays, Sept. 23, Oct. 7 and 21, and Nov. 4. Each orientation lasts about 4 hours. To reserve your spot, contact Jennifer Knoeber at jknoeber@dallas-habitat.org or 214-678-2315. We have several AmeriCorps positions open: 1) One AmeriCorps National Direct position in Construction. This is a 1700-hour commitment from mid-October through almost the end of July, on a Tuesday-Saturday full-time schedule. The position has a living allowance of about $850/month, and Habitat provides $400/month housing assistance paid directly to a landlord/mortgage company. Health insurance and student loan forbearance is also available. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work with our volunteers and learn construction skills. 2) We have just joined One Economy Corporation and AT&T’s AccessAll partnership. Through this partnership, thousands of families around the country—including our 2007 and future families—will receive a computer and internet service in their homes; we will have one AmeriCorps*VISTA Member from One Economy placed here to implement the partnership. This position will start in mid-November and entails, among other things, coordination and training of volunteers to install computers and provide training on them, as well as engaging community groups to provide continued volunteer and financial support. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work with homeowners and who has strong organizational and computer skills. 3) One AmeriCorps*VISTA position in Marketing. This is a 12-month commitment, set to start in early December, to produce the newsletter, help with direct mail, create marketing pieces, maintain the website, and maintain the sponsor recognition program. The position requires experience with computer programs such as Macromedia Freehand MX, Adobe Photoshop, Picasa 2, Dreamweaver 4, Corel PhotoPaint, and Adobe Illustrator. This is a great opportunity for someone with a graphic design and/or marketing background who wants to gain non-profit experience. If anyone is interested in any of these positions, contact Jennifer Knoeber at 214-678-2315 or jknoeber@dallas-habitat.org.
