It's been several years since I attended any official July 4th festivities, so I'm not the best person to answer your question, but I wanted to say welcome to you and your husband. I hope you enjoy San Antonio! If you have other questions in the coming months, maybe I can be more helpful another time. :)

Jennifer,
I see you haven't gotten any replies, so I'll see if I can help you out some. Since you didn't say what you guys like, I'll give you MY favorite places.

Restaurants:
* Great Mexican (not Tex Mex) food- El Mirasol on Blanco Rd. They have fabulous super-strong margaritas and a nice outdoor patio.
* Good Tex-Mex (IMO)- Chuy's at 281 and 1604. Their margaritas are fairly strong too and they also have a nice patio.
* Good sushi- Sushi Zushi, I think there are two fairly close to you.
* Romantic Riverwalk dining- Acenar has a patio right on the river, and it's in a very posh hotel. Not the best food I've ever had, but it's not bad and it's a nice place.
* Great pizza and ambience- Fralo's in Leon Springs, that's up I-10 West headed toward Boerne. A little bit of a drive for you, but worth it. Mostly outdoor seating, very chill. Food is great and you can bring your own wine or beer. Live music on the weekends.
* Great Thai food- Tong's Thai on Austin Hwy. Not cheap, but great.

Bars/Clubs:
* Howl at the Moon- Touristy downtown dueling piano bar. Not a cheap night, but usually pretty fun.
* Silo- Restaurant/bar on Austin Hwy, right across from Tong's. Upscale, but not snobby. They have great live music on Fri or Sat--Jennifer & Bill. No cover.
* Martinis- Like an old Vegas lounge, small space, owner sings all kinds of requests like Johnny Cash, The Beattles and Pat Green. Kind of cheesy but fun. No cover, pricey drinks.

I hope that helps! Welcome to San Antonio. :)

Hi, all! This is not to insult or exclude single folks at all, I've been one very often over the years. :) My boyfriend and I have just found that many of our couple friends are too busy to do stuff very often. Thought I'd see if anybody on here is in the same boat, maybe there are some new friendships to be made. Thanks!

I believe tickets are $20.  The event will also include Katharine McPhee, Augustana, Paul De Anda and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

I would like to, but don't know any other Blue October fans right now.  Would love to go if I can find anyone to go with.

Just curious if there are any Blue October fans out there?  Anyone planning on going to the MixFest concert on 4/27?

I will most likely be sober or closer to it than others, so I could drive.  I might be collecting a few bucks for gas depending on how far it is.  I can fit 4 others in my car--and nobody better get sick on the way back!

Hey, Alex!  I'm all for keeping it cheap, not renting a van and just carpooling in as few cars as possible, but will find the money if we go w/ the van.  I admit I'm cheap, but also all our fun is adding up. :-)  Looking forward to it!  Thanks for opening up your house for the pre- and post-party.

I've been a few times.  It's usually pretty packed outside, mostly standing room.  They have some seats, but you have to get there pretty early.  It's free admission, so it can be a cheap, fun time if you don't mind standing and having to work to get a view.  Parking can also be a challenge, another reason to get there early-ish.

Absolutely.  I've already taken a few lessons there, been meaning to try swing and salsa.  I'd be game for that anytime.

I think there's a free lesson at 7:00 if you want to learn.  Swing dancing is so much fun, I highly recommend trying it to anyone who has any inclination to dance.

Other ideas:
--I don't know how to play poker, but I'd be willing to (try to) learn.  A game night sounds fun too.
--Pub crawl downtown
--Some kind of girl's night at someone's home or going out
--Margarita pour-off or like a themed drink party at someone's house (like bring your favorite mojito or martini recipe)
--Retama Park $.50 Sat. night and then go out afterwards
--A show, play or concert if something good comes to town

That's all I can think of for now.  I'm not used to thinking of ideas for a possibly very big group.  Some things might be too hard to coordinate.
