Okay, here is the official breakdown. You're single, you got a few bucks to burn and you don't want to stay at home. There is a marked difference in culture across our great city, as one might imagine.
If you are looking to meet young, liberal, hippie-ish INDIE TYPES, go to N. St. Mary's to Limelight, The Mix or others. Eclectic indie music (DJs, rock bands), stiff drinks.
Let's say you are in a DRINKING MOOD, you don't want to fix up to much, but you want a groovy bar with rock music or live DJ. The bars on Broadway (REBAR, The Hangar, Broadway Bar, Revolution Room) is more of a mixed, mid twenties crowd. It's fairly consistent.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A COUGAR/OLD RICH DUDE WHO WILL BUY YOU ENDLESS DRINKS go to RAFFLES on Crownhill Blvd, the street just past Broadway off of 410. Amazing drinks, great music, old people, but they talk like sailors and drink like fish. This is where many affluent middle aged San Antonians go to get some action.
For LIVE ROCK/METAL try Wiseguys off of BItters Rd. near 281. There are a few bars near it including Oasis (it's okay) and The Falls (skanky girls and D-Bags). But hey, spikey hair and cuttoff denim skirts can be a good change of pace.
If you want, REALLY GOOD COCKTAILS, you'll need to go to the Northside 281 & 1604 area. The people are dressier, but be fore-warned, they are not as friendly and casual as the more mixed crowds inside of loop 410. EDEN on Evans & 281, Swig North (best cocktails, great DJs), Cielito Lindo, Klusog.
My favorite category: DIVE BARS. So, you don't want to be seen, you want to drink and be able to hear what the other person is saying, try Waldo's, Blanco Tavern, The Mineshaft, Dixie Bar, Sir Winstons, Schooners, Mitchell's, Bombay's (not a dive, but relaxed and not too crowded).
Best SPORTS BARS: Mulligans is great (281 past 1604) Sherlocks is always packed, even on Sunday/Monday nights. Great for singles, best drink specials in town!
