Add an Event

There are two types of events you can submit. And also all our events are moderated to ensure quality. So please read our rules and guidelines before submitting to ensure your event is acceptable and so that you choose the correct event type to add. If you submit incorrectly your event will be rejected.

Our event system is moderated and we approve only events that we believe are appropriate for our website. This means that your quality event will stand out and not be lost in a sea of spam. See below for our general event requirements of what we do not approve.

Event Types

There are two types of events on our website: YAP Events and Local Events.

1.YAP Events are the original event type we have been doing on our website since 2003. They are hosted by you and YAP members can signup. It includes a way for YAP members to meet each other. And must have lots of details so that a new YAP member who does not know anyone can find the group. YOU must attend the event as you are the host. An exception to this would be if you setup a way for YAP members to meet and the event does not require you to be there. Such as setting up a private area for YAP for a happy hour party. YAP events are more strictly moderated than Local Events.

2. Local Events are all other events. The Local Events type is new which we started in 2007. These are event promotions where you are not necessarily the host.

General Event Requirements

-Include an external link where possible. The easiest way to get an event approved is to include a link to a credible webpage with information on that event or the group hosting it.

-Events must appeal to our age demographic of 21-45. So no baby boomer or college focused events.

-Events cannot be racy or controversial. So no "wild college bikini parties", adult toy parties, legalization of something illegal event, etc..

-No overly political or religious events. A politically sponsored happy hour or a dance supported by a church is fine. But events which are heavily promoting or the sole focus is politics or religion would not be approved.

-No solicitations not related to the event. Dance lessons, a luncheon, formal ball, speaking engagement, club parties are all fine. In these cases you are paying for the event. Having a party at a club to sell products or posting a seminar to become "successful" are examples of selling stuff not related to an event. We approve real events. Not events created just to sell or promote stuff. So no mlm or network marketing.

-No overpriced events. We're not here to help you "con" people. If we think that your event is overpriced for the value offered we may decide to reject it. As we only approve what we deem quality events. So be sure to include enough details to prove to us it is a worthy event for the price. External links help a lot. If you are vague or it costs a lot and we are unsure we will reject it.

-It must be a real event! A class is not an event whereas a luncheon featuring a speaker is. A travel agent posting a deal on a trip is not an event whereas a social group taking a trip somewhere would be considered a real event.

Examples of YAP Events versus Local Events

YAP EVENTS

LOCAL EVENTS

YAP Events are the original event type we have been doing from 2003 to present on our websiteLocal Events are new to YAP. We've only had this option since 2007.
YAP Events are often unique to YAP. Such as a bowling night, dinner, a softball team or trip to the museum.Local Events are not unique to YAP. They are open to everyone.
A YAP Event is hosted by you.A Local Event is just promoted by you. You do not have to be host.
You must arrange a way for YAP members to meet each other at the event. Such as having a YAP sign somewhere.Local events do not have to include a way for YAP members to meet each other.
There is a signup list for YAP members to attend the eventNo signup list for YAP members. Anyone can attend without having to sign up.
YAP events have more rules to be approved. As we must ensure that members can find each other and that the event will appeal to everyone.Local events have fewer rules to be approved.
YAP events are preferred to be at public places but can be at a private place.Local events must be at public places. You cannot post an event at your home.
